The Justinian Society's tribute in memory of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
09-23-2020

The Justinian Society of Philadelphia celebrates the life and mourns the passing of one of our nation's most brilliant and deeply cherished jurists, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Justice Ginsburg served on the U.S. Supreme Court for over 27 years. Her time on the Court witnessed trailblazing advancements in gender equality and countless other civil rights. Prior to her appointment to the Supreme Court, Justice Ginsburg served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia from 1980–93 and was the first tenured female professor at Columbia University School of Law. As an advocate, Justice Ginsburg co-founded the Women's Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union in 1972 and participated in hundreds of gender discrimination cases—six of which she argued before the Supreme Court.

Justice Ginsburg's contributions to the rule of law, gender equality, and our profession were not only significant, but lasting. We grieve—but we gain solace in the certainty that the legacy she leaves behind will continue to inspire lawyers of many generations to come.

Respectfully,
The Justinian Society of Philadelphia
