This month, the Justinian Society proudly spotlights the accomplishments of The Honorable Daniel R. Sulman is a judge in the Family Division of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, where he served from July of 2016 to January of 2018 and from December of 2019 through the present, following appointments to the bench by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and election in 2021. The Judge is a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, a graduate of Philadelphia public schools and magna cum laude graduate of Temple University. This month, the Justinian Society proudly spotlights the accomplishments of The Honorable Craig Levin who is a judge of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He assumed office on January 3, 2022. His current term ends January 5, 2032. Judge Levin was born and raised in Philadelphia. His life has been shaped by the communities where he grew up: First in West Oak Lane, then moving as a teenager to the Northeast. This month, the Justinian Society proudly spotlights the accomplishments of The Honorable Rosemarie Defino-Nastasi who presides in the Court of Common Pleas Criminal Trial Division in Philadelphia. She began her legal career working as an Assistant Defender for The Defender’s Association of Philadelphia. She then joined her family’s law firm in South Philadelphia working alongside her brothers, Michael and Vincent Defino. January 2022 Justinian Member of the Month
This month, the Justinian Society proudly spotlights the accomplishments of President Judge Jack Anthony Panella of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. He was elected to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania in November 2003 and sworn into office as an appellate judge on January 9, 2004 and retained in 2013. On January 7, 2019, he was elected President Judge. His true devotion and commitment is to assure that the Superior Court does it best to serve the people and the members of the Bar in ways that are efficient and productive, and balances judicial independence with accountability.   Past Chancellor Honored by Order Sons of Italy in America

Justinian Society Past Chancellor, Richard F. Furia, Esquire, was honored as “Man of the Year” by the Order Sons of Italy in America, Ivy Ridge Lodge 251 at their 93rd Anniversary banquet. Mr. Furia was honored for his tireless dedication and support to the Lodge, to the Order, to the community as a whole and to Italian Americans.

Mr. Furia is the managing partner of the Philadelphia law firm, Furia and Turner. Currently he serves on the Philadelphia Bar Association Board of Governors and is a delegate to the Pennsylvania Bar Association conventions beginning May 12, 2004. Furia has held national and state offices within the O.S.I.A., including National Orator, Chairman of the By-Law Committee, and National Secretary for the Commission for Social Justice and President of the Pennsylvania Commission for Social Justice. Past Chancellor of the Justinian Society of Italian-American Lawyers, Furia has served as a board member since 1984 and as a board member of the Justinian Foundation since 1996. He also is a member of the National Italian American Foundation, Council of 1000.

Among the dignitaries in attendance at the banquet were past U.S. Ambassador to Italy, Congressman Thomas Foglietta; Consul General from Italy, Lorenzo Mott; U.S. Congressman, Jim Gerlach; U.S. Congressman, Jim Greenwood; State Senator, Connie Williams; Chairman of Montgomery County Commissioners, Jim Matthews; Superior Court Judge, Jack A. Panella; Court of Common Pleas Judges: James Murray Lynn, William J. Mazzola, Louis J. Presenza, Sr., and Paul P. Panepinto; Montgomery County District Justice, John Murray, the Honorable Vito Canuso, the Honorable Michael J. McAllister, Justinian Society Chancellor, Denise Gentile; and President of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, O.S.I.A, William D. Bucci.

Furia was introduced by his daughter, Gina Furia Rubel, Esquire. A Citation was presented to him from U.S. Congressman Jim Gerlach; U.S. Congressman Jim Greenwood presented Furia with a U.S. flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol in his honor on March 27, 2004. Special recognition was given to Furia by Chairman of the Montgomery County Commissioners, James R. Matthews. Additional citations were given to him by Pennsylvania State Senator, Constance H. Williams and State Representative Melissa Murphy Weber. Furia received a letter of recognition from U.S. Senator, Arlen Specter, and a joint citation from the President of Philadelphia Council Anna C. Verna and Philadelphia Councilman Frank Rizzo.
