June 2022 Justinian Member of the Month
This month, the Justinian Society proudly spotlights the accomplishments of The Honorable Daniel R. Sulman is a judge in the Family Division of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, where he served from July of 2016 to January of 2018 and from December of 2019 through the present, following appointments to the bench by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and election in 2021. The Judge is a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, a graduate of Philadelphia public schools and magna cum laude graduate of Temple University. This month, the Justinian Society proudly spotlights the accomplishments of The Honorable Craig Levin who is a judge of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He assumed office on January 3, 2022. His current term ends January 5, 2032. Judge Levin was born and raised in Philadelphia. His life has been shaped by the communities where he grew up: First in West Oak Lane, then moving as a teenager to the Northeast. He attended Philadelphia Public Schools, graduating from Temple University with a B.S. in Finance and earned his Juris Doctorate from the Delaware School of Law at Widener University. This month, the Justinian Society proudly spotlights the accomplishments of The Honorable Rosemarie Defino-Nastasi who presides in the Court of Common Pleas Criminal Trial Division in Philadelphia. She began her legal career working as an Assistant Defender for The Defender’s Association of Philadelphia. She then joined her family’s law firm in South Philadelphia working alongside her brothers, Michael and Vincent Defino. This month, the Justinian Society proudly spotlights the accomplishments of President Judge Jack Anthony Panella of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. He was elected to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania in November 2003 and sworn into office as an appellate judge on January 9, 2004 and retained in 2013. On January 7, 2019, he was elected President Judge. His true devotion and commitment is to assure that the Superior Court does it best to serve the people and the members of the Bar in ways that are efficient and productive, and balances judicial independence with accountability.   The Justinian Society and Foundation Honor Joseph H. Jacovini, Elect Officers and Board Members and Present Scholarships to Philadelphia-area Italian-American Law Students

On June 15, 2011, The Justinian Society of Philadelphia and The Justinian Foundation hosted their joint Annual Meeting, Society Election and Foundation Scholarship Luncheon at The Union League of Philadelphia. The organizations honored Joseph H. Jacovini, Esq., Chairman of Dilworth Paxson LLP for his many years of service to both Philadelphia’s legal community and the community at large.

The Society reelected, for a second one-year term, each of its officers including Gino J. Benedetti, Partner, Dilworth Paxson LLP, Annette Ferrara, Associate, Furia and Turner, Michael Mattioni, Managing Partner, Mattioni Counselors at Law, and Francis N. DiMeo, Jr., Partner, Rosen, Schafer & DiMeo, LLP.

The Society also reelected three Board of Governor members to serve second three-year terms including Stephen J. Amoriello, III, Broker, Tactix Real Estate Advisors, LLC; Carl A. Solano, Partner, Schnader Attorneys at Law; and Dawn M. Tancredi, Shareholder, Mattioni Counselors at Law.

Marsha F. Santangelo, M.D., FCLM, Associate, The Beasley Firm, LLC; Andrew J. DeFalco, Associate, Spector Gadon & Rosen, P.C.; and Francesca A. Iacovangelo, Associate, Britt Hankins & Moughan were newly elected to the Board of Governors to serve three-year terms.

“The Justinian Society Board of Governors is thrilled to welcome such a great group of new board members,” said Gino J. Benedetti, Chancellor of The Justinian Society. “These individuals are dedicated to our organization’s mission of fostering a spirit of good fellowship; maintaining the honor and dignity of the legal profession along with a high standard of ethical conduct; promoting and encouraging the study of the law, the due administration of justice and reform in the law; and coordinating efforts in the discharge of civil and professional responsibilities to the community.”

As part of the luncheon, each year The Justinian Foundation presents scholarships to Philadelphia-area Italian-American law students who are members of student Justinian Society chapters. This year, the Foundation distributed several scholarships to area law students totaling approximately $8,000.
