The Justinian Society and Foundation Statement on Current Events 06-03-2020
Justinian Members:
The Justinian Society and Foundation of Philadelphia denounces the tragic, senseless, and unnecessary deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.
We support and express our gratitude for law enforcement officers who justly perform their duties. However, we condemn police brutality and racism.
We support and believe in the right to gather and protest, but we condemn violence in all of its forms.
Our organization has long recognized the words of Emperor Justinian, in that “Justice is the constant and perpetual wish to render to everyone his due.”
Discrimination of any type or form is not consistent with our values, and we stand in solidarity by denouncing it.
As lawyers, it is our obligation to work to resolve conflict, to promote equality, and to labor tirelessly for justice.
We stand ready to work with others who share these common goals.
